Empowering innovation through academic collaboration
“The culture of CADC is so compelling, and you sense it almost immediately when you approach the entrance: a palpably calm, nurturing, therapeutic community that engages the mind, energizes the body and uplifts the spirit of those they serve.”

“Thank you for opening your doors to us and for being so welcoming. I learned so much during my time at CADC, and for that I am so grateful. Without that experience, I would not have been as confident working with my clients.”

Partnership Strategy
Community Adult Day Center is committed to creating an environment focused on person centered care that promotes dignity, hope, rediscovery and overall well-being.
A key strategy in achieving this mission is forming partnerships with leading academic institutions, including Governors State University, Midwestern University, Fox College, Elmhurst University, and Lewis University.
These collaborations strengthen our Center’s services while aligning with our commitment to a Hygge philosophy—a model focused on comfort, connection, and meaningful daily experiences.
Strengthening Person Centered Care
Partnerships with occupational therapy and nursing programs enhance the Center’s ability to provide individualized care tailored to each member’s needs, preferences, and goals.
Students from Governors State University and Midwestern University deliver supervised occupational therapy services that support independence in daily living skills, mobility, and purposeful activity. Fox College contributes through occupational therapy assistant training, reinforcing hands-on, functional support.
At the same time, nursing students from Elmhurst University and Lewis University provide health monitoring, wellness checks, and education. This integrated approach ensures that the environment we create at CADC offers therapeutic activities that energize the physical body, invigorate cognitive abilities and uplift the spirit.
Enhancing Quality of Life for Members and Families
These academic partnerships directly benefit both members and their families. Members receive focused attention, therapeutic engagement, and health oversight, while families gain reassurance that their loved ones are supported by a collaborative care team and evidence-based practices.
Occupational therapy students introduce activities that promote purpose and independence, while nursing students offer education on chronic disease management, medication safety, and preventive care. This combination offers opportunities to reduce caregiver stress and empowers families with knowledge and confidence.
Advancing the Hygge Philosophy
The Center’s Hygge philosophy emphasizes creating a warm, welcoming environment where individuals feel safe, valued, and connected. Partnerships with these universities play a critical role in bringing this philosophy to life.
Students are trained in compassionate, relationship-based care, which naturally fosters meaningful interactions with members. Their presence increases opportunities for personal engagement, social connection, and participation in enjoyable, purposeful activities. Whether through therapeutic activities, conversation, or shared experiences, these interactions contribute to a sense of comfort and belonging.
Additionally, the infusion of new ideas and evidence-based practices from academic programs supports the development of enriching programming that aligns with Hygge principles—such as calm environments, sensory-friendly activities, and routines that promote emotional well-being.
Commitment to Innovation and Community Engagement
Collaborating with Governors State University, Midwestern University, Fox College, Elmhurst University, and Lewis University ensures the Center remains a dynamic, forward-thinking organization. These partnerships create a pipeline of future healthcare professionals while continuously enhancing service delivery through innovation and best practices.
Conclusion
Through strategic partnerships with regional occupational therapy and nursing programs, Community Adult Day Center strengthens its ability to deliver holistic, person-centered care.
These collaborations not only expand services and improve outcomes but also reinforce the Center’s Hygge philosophy creating an environment where members feel comfortable and connected and find hope through the rediscovery of finding new ways to enjoy their lives.
"No matter where a person is on their life journey, no matter their diagnosis, health status, age, sensory needs, interest or abilities, CADC is here to offer support, hope, and unique experiences that lead to a rediscovery of what makes them happy."
